hello, goodbye: Winter Wonderland

I put up with an entire Madrid winter. I want snow.

Back in January, there was a lot of snowfall around central Spain, not in the city of Madrid (of course) but in other cities and pueblos, so we decided to take a day trip and find it. Too bad the weekend was 5 days away. What we found wasn't exactly the "winter wonderland" we were hoping for, but there was enough snow left on the ground for a couple of epic snowball fights.

Who could ask for anything more?

Andrea, Matt and I went on an Ávila adventure, a city located in Castilla y Leon. This city is famous for its medieval city walls and Roman-Gothic architecture. It's a beautiful, quaint little city. I always say that although Spain isn't a particularly large country, you could spend a lifetime here and not see all that there is to see. Each pueblo is packed with its own special characteristics, traditions, and treasures to explore. It amazes me every day how rich the culture this country really is.

We didn't get too far before stopping for a Menu del Día (lunchtime) and we almost didn't have time for anything else! Our lunch was great- the waiter kept gifting us wine and Bailey's and someone had popped in the Adele CD that day so we couldn't have been happier to just sit there for hours escaping the cold. But we came to find snow, and we weren't leaving until our "inner children" were content.

As you can see, it appears that we arrived a bit too late for the snow angel window of opportunity but we still took advantage of every pile of snow that looked more or less unscathed and large enough for some snowball makin'.
